Dear all,
I'm looking for bass drivers to suit my high efficiency system. I'm thinking about the :
- 165-16
- 168-16
- 1636-16
from iconic speakers. It is very difficult to make a choice, because their website doesn't give much detailed informations about them. And no price list neither.
I had some very nive and interresting e-mail exchanges with Mr White, but he doesn't seem to answer anymore since about 3 weeks now.
But, I guess this board is the place to ask about experience with their products. So this would be my question :
Has someone tried their products? How about the quality and the sound for the money?
Thank you for your help and attention, and have a very nice new year!

As I mentioned in one of the other threads, I got pretty sick shortly after our last communication via e-mail. Then the holidays caught up with me. I'm currently trying to get caught up, and should be getting back with everyone shortly.
I am also re-working the Iconic website and literature for the speakers, including the ones you mention. I hope to have it all online within a week.
E-mail me back and I will send you what you need directly.

I have a pair of the 168-8,s and a pair of 164-8,s!
The Iconic speakers are well made, sound good, just like their older Altec ancestors did! basically, thats what they are, Altec drivers, but NEW drivers!
My question to you is what do you want to do? What type of cabinets are you going to use?
The 168,s are very high efficiency drivers that work well in bass horns, the 164,s I have which they say they will be offering soon, are also very high efficiency drivers with good bass kick!
The drivers are very well made, nice heavy frames, proper cones, big magnets, and of course, well assembled!

I think Todd should make the recommendation of which driver is best for your needs!
They have drivers that will work for you. Of that I`m sure!

I posted the same question on a french forum and people said I should not give a try to Iconic because it is not well known and bla-bla-bla.
You know, french people are not very adventurous and allways pretend that all they don't know is bad.
Since I'm not a French, I think those drivers are exactly what I'm looking for, and I do feel like trying them for my system.
But just need some testimonies and advices about them.
Thank you again.

That's funny you should say that about the French - they're buying Iconic brand woofers and drivers right now! I have generated spec sheets for them!

A company that builds custom professional and home hi-fi systems. They have a whole series of boxed systems, as I understand it, designed around them.

Anyway, the purpose of this board is not discussing about different mentalities around the world. But the truth is that I was quite disapointed about how quickly some old french "audiophiles" use to judge products they never tried.
I really hope to be at the end of my quest with the Iconic drivers...
Have a nice day!

Dear Mr White,
Thank you very much for your reply!
Before posting on this board today, I just e-mailed you on the adress of the ICONIC web page. So, you should find it without any problem.
I hope you're having nice hollydays.
My question to you is what do you want to do? What type of cabinets are you going to use?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I need bass speakers to go from 50 to 300 Hz. Goal is : as much efficient as possible, with a refined soun. I may use 2 of them in serie per box. In a bass-reflex design.
Hope this help.
Thank you all for answering!
Ruben.
